Indoor Epoxy & Concrete Flooring Through the Winter
Basements, kitchens, gyms, shops and warehouses can be coated all winter. The cold outside does not stop an indoor floor project.
Can Epoxy Floors Be Installed in Winter? The Short Answer
Yes, indoors. ConcreteShield installs epoxy, polyaspartic and polished concrete floors through the winter in heated basements, restaurants, gyms, shops, showrooms, offices and warehouses across Toronto and the GTA. The slab needs to be about 10°C (50°F) or warmer for standard epoxy, which heated interiors meet. Installed prices typically run about $5 to $9 per sq ft for epoxy and $12 to $15 per sq ft for polyaspartic. Call (519) 778-1412 for a free written quote.
Cold Weather Does Not Stop Indoor Floor Projects
Garages and outdoor surfaces depend on the weather, but indoor spaces that are heated to a normal working temperature do not. Kitchens, gyms, shops, showrooms, warehouses and basements can be coated through the winter, so floors can be refreshed while the weather outside makes outdoor work impractical.
Before every install we confirm slab temperature and moisture, and we plan around your operating hours so the space is back in use as quickly as possible.

What Cold Does and Does Not Change
The slab temperature at install time is what matters, not the temperature outside the building.
| System | Cold-weather note |
|---|---|
| Epoxy | Installed at slab temperatures of about 10°C (50°F) and above, so heated interiors are ideal |
| Polyaspartic | Cures reliably in cooler conditions than epoxy; may use temporary heat in deep winter |
| Concrete polishing | An interior mechanical process, so it is not tied to outdoor weather |
| Garage floors | Depend on garage temperature; we schedule around very cold spells |

Indoor and Winter Flooring FAQs
Can you install epoxy flooring indoors in winter?
Yes. Indoor spaces heated to a normal working temperature are not affected by outdoor weather. Standard epoxy needs a slab at about 10°C (50°F) or warmer, and we confirm slab temperature before every install.
Which floors can be done in winter?
Basements, kitchens, gyms, retail stores, showrooms, offices, warehouses, manufacturing areas and mechanic shops, as long as the space can be kept at a suitable working temperature. See the list above for links to each service.
How do you work around an operating business?
We plan the install around your hours, including nights and weekends where needed, so the space is back in use as quickly as possible. Fast-curing polyaspartic systems are often used when downtime must be kept short.
What happens if the building is cold?
We check the slab temperature first. Depending on the system, we may use temporary heat or schedule the work for when the space can be brought up to temperature.
How much does an indoor floor coating cost?
Epoxy systems typically run about $5 to $9 per square foot installed and polyaspartic about $12 to $15 per square foot, plus any slab repair. You receive a free fixed written quote after an on-site assessment.
Is concrete polishing affected by cold weather?
Polishing is an interior mechanical process of grinding and refining the slab, so it is not tied to outdoor weather. The space does need to be kept at a comfortable working temperature during the work.
